Silver Springs - Nature's Theme Park - Silver Springs is a 350-acre nature theme park and accredited zoo surrounding the headwaters of the beautiful Silver River. "Florida's Original Attraction" is home of the world-famous glass-bottom boats - invented at Silver Springs in 1878. Other in-park attractions include the Jungle Cruise, Fort King River Cruise, and Lost River Voyage boat rides, the Lighthouse Ride, Jeep Safari, World of Bears, Panther Prowl, Big Gator Lagoon, Doolittle's Petting Zoo, live animal shows, Fantastic Fountains water show, and a star-studded concert series. Appleton Museum - One of the South's premier art repositories and education centers, The Appleton Museum was originally built to display and preserve the collection of Arthur I. The Appleton Museum now hosts traveling exhibitions, educational programs, and cultural events. The recently opened Edith-Marie Appleton Wing houses a two-story exhibition gallery, and art library, workshop, and conference rooms. National and renowned artists include Nina Akuma, Daniel Graves, Malcom Harlow, and Mark Tennant, just to name a few. The permanent collection includes African, American, Asian, and contemporary artwork, as well as special pieces from Islamic and Pre-Columbian civilizations. The Appleton Museum is open daily from 10 am to 6 pm, closed only on Christmas and New Year's Day. The museum is located in Ocala, a short drive from Ben's Hitching Post Campground.
